The images originate from a geostationary (located at the equator) satellite at an altitude of 35,786 km. At this altitude the satellite rotates with the earth and the image taken is always from the same position.

GOES16

GOES16 transmits full disc imagery every 30 minutes and is received with a wi-fi antenna, two amplifiers, software defined radio, and a computer located in Humboldt, Saskatchewan.
